Lakshmi Krishnan

Dr. Lakshmi Krishnan has served as Vice President of Life Sciences at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) since April 1, 2022. In this role, she oversees several key research centres, including Human Health Therapeutics, Aquatic and Crop Resource Development, and Medical Devices. A globally recognized leader in vaccine technologies and biologics, Dr. Krishnan has been a driving force in advancing innovations that improve human health and support a sustainable bio-economy.

She joined the NRC in 1997 as a research officer and built extensive expertise in immunology, particularly in the areas of vaccine adjuvants and host-pathogen interactions. Over the years, she has held several leadership positions, including Director General of the Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre and Program Lead for Vaccines and Immunotherapy. Dr. Krishnan has received numerous competitive research grants, published over 75 peer-reviewed articles, and is listed on multiple patents. She is also an active mentor to graduate students and contributes to national science and innovation committees.

She holds a Ph.D. in Immunology from the National Institute of Immunology in India, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Alberta. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and outdoor activities, and volunteers her time mentoring youth in leadership development.
